Sucky Audio Gear
I need to rant…and it’s about audio gear this time. It’s been a while so this will be a refreshing change. :)
I’m now convinced that, for the most part, just about all M-Audio gear sucks in some way. This is my opinion, as everyone knows I’m full of them. I’ve had the displeasure of using two pieces of M-Audio gear in my studio setup right now. I have a Profire 2626 audio interface, and a Keystation 61 es controller. Both seem to have little idiosyncricies which prove to be extremely inconvenient when I need them to just behave themselves.
The Profire audio interface only works when clocked to an external clock source; so luckily my Presonus Digimax FS makes for a nice clock source so that issue is resolved. My key station seems to randomly send CC #7 127 MIDI messages so random faders in logic jump up to full blast. Kind of annoying when I’m trying to finalize a mix and all of my work is “undone” by some rogue MDI messages.
I’ve never had any silliness like this come up until I’d allowed M-Audio into my rig. I’m kicking these abhorrent pieces to the curb as soon as I can afford to replace them with actual legitimately-professional level gear.
Rant over.
